Solution |
| BAR CODE SCANNERS (top of page) |
| The bar code scanner will not connect to my computer. |
Scanners usually have a 5-pin keyboard plug, about 1/2" diameter. If your keyboard plug is smaller, has 6-pins and a center key this is a PS/2 keyboard plug. You will need an adapter to convert the connector to a 5-pin plug. You can get these at your computer store or order them from Freeman Software. |
| CASH DRAWERS (top of page) |
| The cash drawer does not open. (Serial interface) |
This drawer has a 9-pin or 25-pin connector on the cable, which plugs into the serial port on your computer. Is the plug connected to the computer? If you used an adapter, did the adapter merely change the 25-pin to a 9-pin without changing the gender? Is a modem installed in your computer? It could be blocking the signal to the drawer. Go to the "Hardware Setup" screen in the program. Is the cash drawer selected for a serial or parallel port? Click on "Test cash drawer" to test it. |
| The cash drawer does not open. (Parallel interface) |
Is the drawer cable connected to the bottom or back of the receipt printer? Go to the "Hardware Setup" screen in the program. Is the cash drawer selected for a serial or parallel port? Which selection is selected? Is it the
correct port used by the receipt printer? Click on "Test cash drawer" to test it. |
| The cash drawer does not plug into the computer. |
The cash drawer probably has a 25-pin D-shell plug and your computer might have the 9-pin male connector for the serial ports. You will need a 25-to-9-pin adapter, which are available at your local computer store or you may order them from Freeman Software. |
| The cash drawer does not plug into the printer. |
If the cash drawer has a 25-pin or 9-pin plug then it plugs into the computer, not the receipt printer. The cash drawer that connects to the receipt printer has a RJ-11 telephone type connector. |
| TAPE RECEIPT PRINTERS (top of page) |
| The button for the tape receipt printer in the program is grayed and does not work. |
Select the printer driver on the "Hardware Setup" screen at the top left. Click on the button and click on "Generic Text Printer" driver. If you don't see this driver, use the Printer settings to add the printer
and new driver. The driver is located on your Windows installation disk.
The driver defaults to COM1. Change it to Com2 if you have a serial printer
or LPT1 if you have a parallel printer. |
| The receipt printer does not print. (For serial printers.) |
1. Did you use the cable that was supplied with the printer? Don't substitute the cable for a standard serial cable.
2. Is the printer connected to the port, selected in the "Hardware Setup" screen?
3. If the printer is connected to COM2? Is the "Hardware Setup" screen using COM2 for the
Generic Text driver on COM2? Try testing it from the "Hardware Setup" screen.
4. Do you have a modem installed in your computer? Check the COM port setting for the modem. Is the modem using the COM port the printer is set to and blocking the data from
getting to the printer.
5. Download the "Hdwetest.exe" program from our Web page or order the test program from us to test the printer.
6. Turn off the printer and while holding down the "Feed button" or the "On Line
button" turn the printer back on to print a test sheet. |
| The receipt printer does not print. (For parallel printers.) |
1. Is the printer connected to the printer port, selected in the "Hardware Setup" screen?
2. If the printer is connected to LPT1? Is the "Hardware Setup" screen using LPT1 for the Generic Text driver set on LPT1? Try testing the printer from the "HardwareSetup" screen.
3. Have you disconnected
the 80-column printer and connected the receipt printer to the same port?
4. Download the "Hdwetest.exe" program from our Web page or order the test program from us to test the printer.
5. Turn off the printer and while holding down the "Feed button" or the "On Line
button" turn the printer back on to print a test sheet. |
